We get hundreds of requests a week for different destinations all across the globe. But inevitably, some places are more popular than ever!

And it does change dramatically depending on circumstances and seasons!

For example, during the height of the pandemic we saw a massive rise in map requests for locations right here at home. Places such as the Lake District, and Cornwall, were the number one places you chose to make new memories.

But now that restrictions have started to ease and we’re all starting to ease back into travelling… what are our top destinations so far in 2022?

Top Destinations for Weddings

Destination weddings are back! Happy couples are choosing to combine the honeymoon and wedding in a smaller, but more exotic fashion. And from the orders in our map room it is clear that the number one spot for destination weddings in 2022 is… Greece!

Particularly the Greek Islands such as Crete, Corfu, Santorini, and Kefalonia. It’s not a huge surprise. Greece was one of the first countries to open up its borders to tourists again after the pandemic. Not to mention the guaranteed good weather and relatively short travel distance from the UK, it’s a clever choice for the first big trip or occasion after a few years of staying close to home.

Top Place to get Engaged

A lot of you have put off popping the question until things became a little more certain. And now that you’re all hopping off on an abroad adventure we’re seeing a huge rise in engagement celebrations. So much love! And the thread that runs through the majority of our engagement gift requests is… The Amalfi Coast!

And what better spot than the beautiful coastline of Italy to get down on one knee. Very romantic.

Top Holiday Destination

At Bombus we love nothing more than a big ole surprise. And for those of you planning to whisk away someone special on a surprise trip, we say thank you for including us and our gifts in your plans. And for those once in a lifetime occasion holidays, you all love the USA. Particularly….New York City!

This one ranked right up there along with Las Vegas as the top destination for those of you going on a big surprise celebration. And we can’t blame you one bit. Both are the perfect spot for endless fun and entertainment.

Top Staycation

Yes, we are seeing a lot of you desperate to get away for the first time in ages and spread your wings abroad. But that isn’t for everyone just yet. The staycation is still the number one way you are all spending your holidays so far this year. And even thought there has been a slight shift in holiday patterns to more remote areas of the United Kingdom, we simply cannot sate your appetite for…Cornwall!

Beautiful beaches. Great food. Festivals and markets. And the most stunning scenery in the world, not just the country. Cornwall certainly does it for us. Have you read our blog about it?

Top Destinations for a City Break

There have been some decent bank holiday weekends so far this year. And a lot of you have taken that opportunity to sneak off for a short city break. In the past we’ve seen your huge appetite for the likes of Rome, Paris, Florence, and Dublin. But perhaps in part to the Jubilee, or the travel chaos at the airports…this year you are all booking trips to London!

Which is great news for our capital city. The theatres, restaurants, and attractions are relying on us to give them the boost they need after a tough few years.

And so there you have it. Our most popular map destinations for the first half of 2022. We’ll let you know how the rest of the year turns out. Who knows! We could see you all reaching for your passports and heading off to Japan. Or whisking away your loved one for a secret wedding in Fiji.

Our predictions are that we'll still see the staycation rule supreme for the rest of this year, with long haul travel making a bigger return from next year onwards.
